How to Claim Land (Towny)
This guide explains the basic flow to create a town and claim land using Towny. Commands can vary by Towny version — if a command below doesn't work, run /towny or /towny help in-game for your server's exact syntax.
Prerequisites
- You need to be a player with enough money to pay for town creation and townblocks.
- To claim land for a town you must be the town's Mayor or have an assistant role with claim perms.
Step-by-step: create town & claim
- Create your town (example):
- Invite residents (optional):
- Move to the chunk you want to claim and claim it for your town:
- Set town spawn/home (optional):
/town new MyTown
/town invite PlayerName
/town claim
# or claim multiple chunks: /town claim 3
/town set spawn
# or /town set home
Strong tip: claiming consumes townblocks and usually costs in-game currency. Make sure your town balance can cover the purchase before claiming.
Common management commands
- Unclaim a single block you stand in:
/town unclaim - Unclaim all town land (use with caution):
/town unclaim all - Claim a plot as a resident (if enabled):
/plot claim - Set plot permissions (e.g., build, switch, container):
/plot set perm use/deny PlayerName - Show Towny map to view nearby claims:
/towny map
Roles & permissions
Only the Mayor (or assistants trusted by the Mayor) can perform town-wide claims. Server admins may grant extra permissions via a permissions plugin or Towny ranks.
Troubleshooting & tips
- If you can't claim, check your town balance and whether the chunk is inside another nation's/town's borders.
- Use /towny help to see version-specific commands if anything above fails.
- Some servers add additional protections or custom economy prices — ask staff if you hit a block you can't resolve.
